Grgo Canvel has it all. A woman who loves him, three lovely daughters, a job that passion. Does the filmmaker and devoted to his work all the time and energy. The family suffers but he understands. He has charisma, Grgo. He produced many films, took many risks and accumulated debts. His Moon Movies bankruptcy. He resists at all costs but the apparent setback, the irreparable harm. Back to the wall, he chooses to leave the scene with extreme action and no explanation. Others, again, the task of understanding.
The second feature, after Tout est pardonné, Mia Hansen-LVE, born in 1981, a past actress Assayas and writing experience to the Cahiers, tells a figurativeto human, that of Humbert Balsan, enlightened producer, committed suicide in 2005. His knowledge of Balsan not such as to oblige loyalty, so the director invents, imagines, from some impressions (his wife in his office the day after the tragedy) and a contradiction of impact between the vitality of the subject in question and his deadly act.
The result is a film about the world of independent filmmaking, extremely precise in the fresco, which excludes any vagueness. In particular, a film about us before the start of filming: the love for the script, the decision to do so, attempts to grow it in the best possible conditions, according to the desire of the director. Almost the director and producer was a mother a father who must find the money, guarantee the existence of the son is not taking on the artistic outcome but increased avr his family. The title, incidentally, speaks bluntly: The father of my fIGLI is the man who made possible the film director (he was the first to believe in his feature debut) and not just his.
From the formal point of view the film tries interesting movements, paying hyper presence of leading the first hour of film and its no time remaining and passing the baton with great fluidity man's wife and then to the eldest daughter, intention to deliver an idea of growth and continuity, rather than arrest. Unfortunately not enough. The father of my children lacks force, settles on a standard building altogether, a director without a script inventions and too modest, light, limit inconsistencies.
Louis-Do de Lencquesaing, excellent in the role of Grgo, aristocratic gesture, weak and complex spirit, feel his absence when there '. This, admittedly, the film hits the target.
